in 1998 I was commissioned to create trailers for the Sundance film festival. it occurred to me that it would be more interesting to play a series of trailers on a theme, at random, rather than a single trailer over and over again.
the trailers were very well received and were even reviewed by The Independent. the festival, and many other festivals since, have used this model and produced a series of trailers instead of one. the other three commissioned pieces are: “How to make a tree,” “How to make a bird,” and “How to make a river.”
in 2001 the Sundance Institute kindly allowed me to have these trailers turned into PSA’s (Public Service Announcements) as they appear here.
